Our Story

In 2013, Daniel emailed Fritz Hinrichs (gbt.org) to get some advice in pursuing online teaching as a classical educator. In reply, he mentioned that there was a great need for someone to develop an online mathematics sequence for home schooled Great Books students. Armed with that knowledge and his encouragement, Daniel launched Polymath Classical Tutorials a few months later with the goal of putting together a 4-year math sequence in the Great Books tradition.

Since 2013, Daniel has spent his summers teaching seminars in Geometry, Arithmetic, and Algebra while researching and writing the Classical Mathematics series.

During the school year, Daniel teaches in the Memoria Press Online Academy.

What we do

Polymath Classical Tutorials is an online tutorial service and curriculum publisher dedicated to providing classically grounded Christian education.

Why we exist

We live in an age which is simultaneously hyper-specialized and superficial. College students, for instance, are forced to choose only one or two subjects to pursue in depth, and even grade-school students are taught to think of knowledge as a heap of unrelated subjects. In response, we seek to help students discover that all subjects are interrelated. (For instance, students using Classical Mathematics ONE will find themselves not only doing math, but also writing essays and tackling questions about the nature and beauty of human rationality.)

Furthermore, we believe that education ought to be, as educator Andrew Kern once put it, the cultivation of wisdom and virtue by nourishing the soul on the good, the true, and the beautiful. By this definition, Christian education is simply a fulfillment of Solomon’s exhortations to pursue wisdom. Finally, because Christ is Lord of all, all education is, ultimately, an inquiry into the mind of God.

We are always working to add new courses, curricula, and resources, and have plans to expand into disciplines beyond mathematics. All of our courses and materials are designed to encourage and help students to develop deep interests in all subjects, recognizing that truth is a consistent whole and must be sought to the glory of God.

At Polymath, it is our goal to participate in the modern rebirth of classical Christian education by providing the tools to raise renaissance men and women.
